WKFS -  World Knife Fighting Society

Frans Stroeven is also head of the World Knife Fighting Society. He started the WKFS in 2003 and is especially developed for promoting the unique Filipino Knife Fighting techniques. Knife Fighting is in the Filipino Martial Arts a common trainings element. Almost every style of Eskrima, Kali or Arnis pays attention to it.

Stroeven also decided to create this special Society because Knife Fighting is in this modern world to important to just let it be a 'part of' something. It is a Martial Art of it's own! Knife fighting can be adapted in any kind of Martial Art.

Realistic training by Stroeven

The Filipino philosophy is: if you get in a fight unexpectedly it will be safer to defend yourself with a weapon, even if that weapon is a knife. That's why students of the Filipino Martial Arts first are taught how to use weapons before they get into unarmed techniques.

Frans: "You can't learn how to defend yourself against a knife in a better way than by learning how to handle a knife yourself! Only then you will experience how enormously fast the blade moves and how small your chances are in a real situation. You will probably get only one or two chances to overcome your opponent."

Knife Fighting is also a very important asset for developing sharp reflexes, timing and distancing. A punch or a kick you can probably take, but what if you fail to parry a knife attack? So you will learn many different techniques against a knife in a safe and responsible way, continuously using his or her aggression in a controlled manner. Techniques with or against the knife, knife versus knife and even using two knives will be taught. But first learn how to block and a simultaneous eye-jab to eliminate your opponent. After that you might flow into a lock, disarm or throw.

WKFS is recruiting!

Frans Stroeven is also looking for more WKFS instructors through Europe. You can follow instructor courses, personal training and of course you can participate at seminars and classes. Seminars
